Birthday edition special (19-02-2009)

I celebrated my birthday overseas for the first time! And it was the biggest affair so far in my 20 odd years. Have to thank Pika and Yanjie for enthusiastically arranging the entire thing, and everyone else for turning up for this celebration. :) There were a mix of people, from the local students whom we knew who went to Singapore for exchange to fellow Singaporeans we met in the university. It was a fun party

The people there. From left: Fu Pan, Shi Lei, Samantha, Me, Pika, Wen Wen, Louis, Yanjie, Jiao Long, Hui Long, Jia Wei, Chen Zhen and Heng Feng (both not in the picture)

Birthday cake... It seems like chocolate was the more popular choice. I was more into fruit cake, so in the end we sort of settled on a chocolate cake with fruit toppings. The cake was kind of different. It consists of a sponge cake core and covered with a very thick helping of cream. The entire facade of the cake is cream...

Lighting a very special candle.
The candle opens up into a lotus flower when lit up, and has a accompanying birthday song too. Very amazing. Its a delightful surprise haha. According to the local students this candle came from 义乌, and that place is where all sorts of decorations; christmas and chinese new year came from.
Make a wish before cutting the cake
Presents too! from Hui Long. Its a nice cup haha.
Zheda bookmark from Jiao Long. haha super nice..
Somehow it turned into an awards presentation ceremony... Very comical.

I received a tumbler from Wenwen too, and that was before the birthday cake. So there were no pictures.
Teh Tarik! haha Its something easily done in Hangzhou with minimal effort. We had some after the cake. We got everyone to try it once too. Here's Jiawei in his attempt to "tarik" the tea.
Random games we play.. It seems like the games are international. Everyone knows how to play the "tio tio tio" game. There were chinese variants of it too. 粉红娘娘 and 海盗船长 are similar variants and these 3 games were mixed together. We had to react accordingly to the names being called out, and its certainly confusing. After like the 6th or 7th round, everyone's coats came off, as it was getting warm inside the room.

Another favourite of the masses, murderer or polar bear, chinese version. I forgot what the local students called it already. This is a detective game and everyone needs to persuade each other on who is the real murderer... Usually the game is done in english back home. This time round its in chinese... definitely a challenge.

Thanks everyone! For making this birthday a fun and eventful celebration to remember.
